My Morning Jacket - Dondante
12/1/06 - Electric Factory, Philadelphia PA

My Morning Jacket is going back on the road this spring with a swing through the southeast. Damn, I feel lucky that I live in Virginia. Merriweather here I come?

Sometimes it’s no wonder why I’m friends with these guys in The Butter Room. We have pretty damn good taste in music.  Dondante is probably MMJ’s best song in my opinion. But that’s just my opinion.

Jim James - “Bermuda Highway”

8.2.08 - Newport Folk Festival, Newport, Rhode Island

My Morning Jacket’s front man plays one of the band’s older (and best) tunes at the Newport Folk Festival.  M. Ward also joined Jim for a few songs during the performance, which was recorded by NPR, and available through their podcast.

One of my favorite songs.  For the dreamers.

My Morning Jacket - “Butch Cassidy”

Butch Cassidy I could’ve been your friend,
and rode with you and the Sundance Kid.
We’d laugh awhile and we’d smile a bit,
cause crimes like our aren’t counterfit.
They say you never even killed a man,
till it came right down to your final stand.
Bullets flyin’ and the wounded cryin’
and your buddy he’s goin down.
Get lower and the feelins show
and you gave off the final sound.
‘Cause a soldiers death is so much better than defeat just hangin around.
Defeat just hangin around.

QUOTE
I have always been a fan of the wisdom and power of the mustache. Having only a mustache is a feeling unlike any other. A feeling of deep pride and sophistication.

My Morning Jacket- “Librarian”

Another off their new one, Evil Urges.  Jim James finds a way to make being nerdy desirable and sexy in this song.  It completely draws me in each time I listen.

My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges

My Morning Jacket has a new record coming out in June.  This is the title track.  When I first heard the song on the Hype Machine, I didn’t even recognize that it was MMJ.  I love that they continue to reinvent their sound.

The rest of the album gets better!  I listened to the whole thing end to end this morning and am very impressed.  Less grungy with some truly amazing guitar tones, and more of an ‘electro’ pulse beating from start to finish.

I may post another track (or two) from the new album later!
