Happy Phourth of July From TBR in Alpharetta!

Of all the trips I’ve taken for Phish, none comes close to the one from last weekend. Incredible improv, some amazing bustouts (finally got my first Col. Forbin’s after 61 shows while wearing my red, white and blue Forbin shirt on the Fourth), and such a great time with three of my favorite people.  Three days later and the euphoria of the whole thing still hasn’t worn off!

GPOYW. Matt and I this weekend before the Widespread Panic / Allman Brothers show in Charlotte. While the idea of a tumblr friend turning into an IRL friend may not be foreign to many of you, this was the first time for me, and I can’t think of a nicer, more down to earth, good people type person than Matt. Oh, and the music was pretty great as well.
Really kind words from Michael, and I feel the same way.  The only reason I was even in Charlotte for those shows was tumblr and The Butter Room, so it was nice for it to come full circle.  Got to spend most of Saturday with Michael and introduce him to my other Carolina friends.  Good times all around with some fantastic people.

All kinds of awesome
New experiences and friends are the best thing to come out of The Butter Room.

I couldn’t agree more.  It’s been just about a year since I joined The Butter Room, and I never thought I’d get anywhere near as much out of it as I have during just the past six months. The Butter Room has grown into way more than just a place to share audio, video, and photos of live music experiences.
We’ve formed lasting friendships and successful business partnerships, brought together diverse groups of friends from different pockets of the country with different musical tastes, and had a helluva good time while seeing some wonderful music. Since March we’ve been able to have Butter Room meet-ups in Hampton, Charlottesville, Jones Beach, Deer Creek, Alpine Valley, and this past weekend at Louisville’s Forecastle Festival.
We’ve also had the opportunity to meet up with some of our fantastic tumblr followers on Phish tour at Fenway (Shannon) and Star Lake (Megan). We’ll be getting together again in some numbers next month as well, meaning all said we have brought multiple members of this community together from across the country almost 10 times in six months.  That blows my mind!
I really feel like I now have a huge second family. I know all of the guys (and girls) in this collective will have my back and take care of me if and when I need their help; likewise, I hope they know that I’m always going to be in their corner as well.
This weekend at Forecastle, Martin and his crew invited me in like they’d known me for years (when in reality Martin and I only met in person three weeks prior for one of the most memorable weekends of Phish I’ve ever had) and kept me in good spirits even after I returned to my car to find that someone had smashed it in a hit-and-run. Martin, Jen, Randy, Kevin, Brooke, Dana, Tonto, Margie, Becky, Justin, Walt… I’m probably forgetting some other people here, but y’all showed me the true Southern Heat this weekend and I’m going to make sure this isn’t the last time we get together.
No matter how successful the live music blog has become or will become in the future, I feel truly blessed to be part of The Butter Room for what it has added to my life this year and what can only continue to grow in the future. I love all of you guys!

Can’t believe we started the tour together 19 days ago.  We’ve been able to meet up with so many of our friends in different cities for different shows, and now we’re coming back to our home venues for a massive gathering of friends (probably over 100 of us in total across our mutual friends).  Our Butter Room pals, The Brothers Blum, are coming in for the weekend, and we’ll be staying with another friend and his wife for Alpine this weekend.  As of this post (40 miles outside of Columbus, Ohio), we have traveled 4,036 miles since we started off for Fenway Park on Friday, May 29th.

“Ruby Tuesday Ride Home (Catch Your Dreams Before They Slip Away)”

3:15 in the morning, leaving Kingston Mines and heading back to Old Town, I’m in the middle of two good friends… who happen to be brothers. Their exchange over The Rolling Stones’ “Ruby Tuesday” was pure gold. Trevor is on the phone trying to get directions to some Cougar’s place (and trust me, the cougars were out in full force last night), while Sean is only worried about one thing: getting to the Old Town Ale House where - little did I know - some shenanigans with some high school gal pals would ensue.

To my left is Trevor. We lived together for a year, and have known each other since we were pretty young. To my right is Sean, Trevor’s brother. Sean’s 26, and I’ve known him since the first grade when he was our 4th grade mentor (or somethin’ like that). We’ve seen dozens of concerts together (as far east as Hampton, VA), partied at the apartment we have all - at one time or another - lived in, and somehow we managed to all meet up last night.

I canceled my flight back to Indy Thursday and was in the city, and Trevor arrived fairly late last night, while Sean lives there. It’s great when you can randomly put together pieces to a wonderful Friday night with life-long friends. I think this video captures what a great time was being had.

Matt,
I like this picture of us a lot- you guys are two of my most favorite buddies. :) I think I’ll get it framed sometime.

I’m really thankful for two people who I know will always be there for me in life, thru thick and thin.  That was a fun night… although it seems forever ago.
